I have pre-ordered Rock Band for the 360 and I'll be picking it up tomorrow. I cannot wait. This game is expensive, retailing for $169.99, but you get a lot for the money - drum kit, mic, and a guitar. It's much like Guitar Hero (made my the same developers), but it expands it to a full band! I'm personally addicted to Guitar Hero now and cannot wait to play in a whole band.

Anyone else picking this up?

The PS3 version is on our Christmas list. (With a baby on the way in... uh... six weeks, forking out $170 for a game is a bit of a stretch.) We loved GH3 (even though I know that was different developers than GH1/2 and Rock Band) and are really looking forward to it. My husband especially wants the drums. And we've heard that our PS3 guitar controller that came with GH3 will work with Rock Band too, so we can have a couple people over and all play.

Well, I just hosted my first Rock Band party. Smile It was a blast! I played drums most of the night and tried to stick to Easy mode. I ventured into Medium difficulty towards the end and let me tell you, I can't fathom how difficult it will be on Hard, or Expert! I had to have my girlfriend play the foot drum-pad to keep up with the rhythms while I beat away on the 4 drum pads with my sticks.

But the vocals and guitar parts aren't nearly as difficult. That is, if you know the song you're singing. There are a handful of songs that I don't know and therefore have much difficulty singing along to. But the beautiful thing is you don't need to match the words exactly. Pitch is the most important and no matter which octave you sing in, it will align you to the notes being sung. It's awesome!

We were all giggling with how amazing this game was to play as a group. I had 3 people in my band to start. One on drums, one on guitar, and one vocalist. It would surely be intense with 4 people going at the same time. But really really fun intense. Smile

I can't recommend this game highly enough for those of you that like music games. It's so much more detailed and exciting than Guitar Hero. You can customize your band members look with name, weight, height, hair color, facial design, eye color, hair style, and attitude options. And later on, you can buy more tatoos, makeup, and hair treatments.

Amazing.

So the singing part is about pitch, not rhythm? I'd assumed it was a rhythm thing too, as the GH series is, and as I've never played any of those singing games. I'd seen the drum part in a demo, but that's it. (Well, we saw the whole thing at PAX, but it was too crowded to really figure out details.)

Sounds like you had a lot of fun, Taka! I'm looking forward to when we can do something similar.

I'm still trying to justify a purchase of this. No, it's not that I need to justify that the game is fun - it's just that I've already exhausted my gaming "budget" and I've got to save money for other things (namely paint and furniture).

Still, perhaps when I get moved in to the new residence I'll give into my own internal rationalization of, "Hey, wouldn't it be fun if you could play Rock Band when you have friends over?"

I'm on the precipice of giving in, and I think I'll eventually talk myself into buying the set.

Tons of fun.

If you can get people together to play.

And if those people can get better at the game over time.

My problem is finding a group of adults (not kids) that can handle the increasing difficulty levels as your band progresses through the different gigs. You stop earning Fans if you don't play new gigs. And new gigs require you to play on higher difficulty levels. And the people that I play with...uh...can't handle the higher levels, so we get boo'ed off the stage. Smile

Remember the case doubles as a Coaster! or a really small coffee table....

Very Happy

As much as I love the game, we mostly only play QuickPlay nowadays, because we're stuck on the career mode for this reason. Though J has gotten better with the drums and can do some songs on Expert now, I can only get through the easiest songs on Medium with the Guitar. I keep toying with the idea of adding a singer to the band since I can do better with that, and might be able to get us through, but then I'd have to learn the words to the songs. Hah.
